Kinja'd!!!

My sister got a reasonable amount from FAFSA this year and bought a new laptop. XPS 13, per my recommendation. I am so jealous. This thing is absolutely glorious. 5th gen i5, 8GB RAM, SSD, ridiculously good speakers that I assume use some weird beamforming crap to sound WAY farther apart than they are, and the most stunning screen I’ve seen on any laptop ever.

Question though.

Why can’t non-Apple OEMs figure out touchpads? The best we get is “yeah this isn’t as bad as trying to control a mouse with a Kinect” though 99% of my complaints about modern touchpads boil down to “there is no physical mouse buttons so I can never consistently right-click without looking down to make sure I’m touching the right part of the touchpad”. Meh.

Apple touchpads are the best in the business.... I think

Running my MBP on windows renders the touchpad a bit useless though, most of the nice features that it has on OSX are lost due to hardware incompatibility, though the bootcamp program on windows fixes that for me

XPS13 is pretty good except for 2 things, the webcam placement and the touchpad is crap.

Most consumer laptops have terrible keyboards and touchpads. EliteBooks, Latitudes, and ThinkPads generally have much better keyboards and touchpads though. I got myself a gently used EliteBook 840 G2 Skylake i5 + 8GB + M.2 SSD + HD + 1080p + 3 year warranty for $400 shipped a few months ago on eBay and it looks + runs new.

Yeah I have a 7 year old Elitebook 8560w and it’s the business with an SSD in it.

I have a couple year old XPS 13 at work and with Windows 7 I said repeatedly that it was the worst touchpad ever. Significant improvements when upgraded to W10, but still nowhere close to Apple touchpads. No wonder other people hate to use touchpads! In the office I get a lot of people who NEED their laptop to have that little pointer thingy in the middle of the keyboard because they don’t like touchpads... Apple has always gotten the touchpad right.

Thinkpad! One week with the little red nub and you will swear off touch pads forever

I’ve had a few. Trackpoints are the bomb.

I got mine in February! Mine’s exactly the same, just with the i7. Is hers a touchscreen? I decided not to get that, not worth the $500 imo. Hope she enjoys it!
